Who was New Jersey representative Donald Payne Jr.?

New Jersey Congressman Donald Payne Jr. passed away in April 2024 at the age of 65 after serving in the US House of Representatives for over a decade.

Payne Jr. was born in 1958 in Newark, New Jersey and was a Democrat who represented the Garden State’s 10th Congressional District.

He was known for being a tireless advocate for New Jersey families, working to create jobs, protect children, and ensure the health and safety of communities.

During his time in Congress, Payne Jr. was voted as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials in the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

He was also a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security’s Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery, and was a strong supporter of the Affordable Care Act.

Payne Jr. studied graphic arts at Kean University and leaves behind a legacy of public service and advocacy for his community.

His passing was confirmed by Governor Phil Murphy, who described him as a champion for the people of New Jersey. While the cause of his death is unknown, it was reported that he had suffered a cardiac episode related to complications from diabetes.

The late congressman was married to Beatrice and had three children with her. Murphy expressed his condolences to the family and noted that Payne Jr.’s love will live on in them.
