Goldfields Ghana recently made history by appointing Ms Catherine Kuupol as the General Manager of its Tarkwa Mine. This appointment is a groundbreaking move as Ms Kuupol is the first woman to hold such a position in the entire history of Ghanaian mining.
With over 20 years of experience in gold mining and a strong track record in metallurgical processes, Ms Kuupol is well-equipped to lead the Tarkwa Mine. She will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of all mine areas and ensuring compliance with Ghana’s Minerals and Mining Regulations.
Prior to her promotion, Ms Kuupol made waves as Goldfields’ first female Metallurgical Manager, where she successfully managed both the Tarkwa and Damang mines. Her dedication to the industry is evident not only in her professional achievements but also in her pursuit of a PhD at the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa.
Ms Kuupol’s appointment came into effect on May 1, 2024. This milestone marks a significant step towards gender diversity and inclusivity in the mining sector in Ghana, and serves as an inspiration for aspiring female leaders in the industry.
