Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has expressed his concerns regarding the handling of the case involving former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). According to Kpebu, EOCO should have been present to seize all the money that was released to Dapaah by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The Accra High Court had previously ordered the OSP to return all monies seized from Cecilia Dapaah. Additionally, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced at a press conference that the OSP had discontinued the case and referred it to EOCO for further investigation.
However, the Attorney General’s office revealed that the OSP did not submit the report on the collaborative investigation to EOCO and has not responded to requests for its findings. The docket presented to EOCO only contained basic information and did not provide evidence of criminality associated with the properties retrieved from the suspects.
Martin Kpebu emphasized the importance of EOCO being present to receive the money when it was returned to Cecilia Dapaah. He criticized the Attorney General’s office for advising EOCO not to probe the case further, stating that it was wrong for them to issue such advice. Kpebu urged the A-G’s office to withdraw their advisory letter to EOCO and allow a thorough investigation into the matter.
