The Ghana Police Service has successfully convicted five armed robbers in the Ashanti Region.
The convicted individuals were found guilty of various charges, including conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, abetment of crime by supplying ammunition, and dishonest receiving.
The Police Service, in a Facebook post, identified the five convicts as Jeffrey Dwomoh, Clifford Opoku, Kwabena Kyei Barfour, Prince Opuni, and Henry Kusi Marfo.
These individuals were apprehended in 2023, alongside two other suspects, Richard Dogbatsey and William Ansah, in relation to a series of robbery and carjacking incidents in the region.
Jeffrey Dwomoh and Clifford Opoku were both sentenced to 120 years of imprisonment in hard labor for conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery. Kwabena Kyei Barfour received a 105-year sentence for dishonestly receiving.
Prince Opuni was convicted of reckless driving and fined 350 penalty units or faced 10 months of imprisonment, plus an additional fine for causing damage to a police vehicle.
Henry Kusi Marfo was found guilty of supplying ammunition for the robbery and received a total fine or faced 15 months imprisonment.
Richard Dogbatsey and William Ansah, on the other hand, were acquitted of the charge of abetment of robbery.
