Sandor Clegane, also known as the Hound, is a fictional character in American author George R. R. Martin’s epic novel series A Song of Ice and Fire and its television adaption Game of Thrones.
In the HBO television adaptation, Scotsman Rory McCann plays Sandor. Additionally, as part of the bonus features on Blu-ray releases, McCann narrates the animated “History and Lore” for House Clegane.
A fictitious character from the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros named Sandor appeared in a 1996 episode of Game of Thrones. He is Ser Gregor Clegane’s younger, estranged brother. King Joffrey Baratheon’s personal bodyguard was Sandor.
He later made appearances in Martin’s A Clash of Kings (1998), A Storm of Swords (2000), and A Feast for Crows (2005, respectively). Sandor is known as one of the Seven Kingdoms’ fiercest and most formidable fighters, much like his brother.
He suffered horrible facial burns when his brother shoved his face into a brazier when he was a young child, and ever since then, he has carried both a paralyzing fear of fire and a fierce animosity toward his sibling.
Near the end of A Game of Thrones, Sandor is hired as Joffrey’s Kingsguard, but he never consents to become a Knight. As a result of Clegane’s constant observation of Sansa, he develops a furious protective attitude toward her and calls her “little bird.”
Is Sandor Clegane a good person in ‘Game of Thrones’?
Sandor is a good person, but he has an evident moral void. His moral uncertainty dominates the first four seasons before he develops into a more overt hero in the later seasons.
