Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has made a bold promise to small-scale miners in the country.
During his campaign tour of the Western Region, he pledged to make them “millionaires” through a new policy that will enhance their livelihoods and financial well-being.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that his government will allocate mining concessions to small-scale miners, aiming to create numerous millionaires and multi-millionaires within their ranks. He expressed his commitment to supporting small-scale miners by providing them with the necessary tools for legal mining operations, rather than targeting them and confiscating their equipment.
Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia assured the formation of a formalized small-scale mining regime, where miners will be required to register with the Small Scale Miners Association using their Ghana card. He also pledged to increase representation from the Minerals Commission and the EPA, ensuring that districts lacking representatives receive adequate support.
Additionally, Dr. Bawumia proposed the establishment of mining committees in every district to issue temporary licenses in consultation with local chiefs, further involving community leaders in the licensing process.
This announcement comes as part of Dr. Bawumia’s broader campaign promises to reform key sectors and drive economic growth in Ghana.
