Harald zur Hausen cause of death: What happened to Harald zur Hausen?

The actual cause of Harald zur Hausen’s death is yet to be disclosed to the general public. We will do well to have this updated in due time.

Oncovirus research is Zur Hausen’s area of expertise. He proposed in 1976 that the human papillomavirus is a significant factor in the development of cervical cancer.

In 1983–1984, he and his colleagues discovered HPV16 and HPV18 in cervical malignancies. The HPV vaccination was created because of this study, and the first version of it went on sale in 2006.

He is also credited with discovering the virus that causes genital warts (HPV 6), a monkey lymphotropic polyomavirus that is closely related to a recently discovered human Merkel cell polyomavirus, as well as how to use the Epstein-Barr virus to immortalize cells and phorbol esters to induce viral replication.
