The official outdooring of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential running-mate has sparked discussions about her readiness to lead the country.
At the event on April 25, Prof Opoku Agyemang delivered a powerful acceptance speech, addressing the current state of Ghana’s economy and emphasizing her commitment to the NDC party as the vice presidential candidate for the upcoming 2024 December general elections.
Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, a Senior Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, praised Prof Opoku Agyemang’s speech, highlighting her boldness, fearlessness, and awareness of societal issues. He emphasized that her leadership qualities are essential for someone aspiring to be a leader and running mate.
Dr. Asah-Asante also dismissed criticisms that Prof Opoku Agyemang does not add value to the NDC’s ticket, pointing out that voters’ decisions are influenced by various factors such as the economy, infrastructure development, and the fight against corruption.
Meanwhile, NDC Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, expressed excitement among the party’s supporters about Prof Opoku Agyemang’s candidacy.
He mentioned that she has been well-received by grassroots supporters, especially women organizers and young people, during their campaign engagements across different regions of the country.
Overall, both Dr. Asah-Asante and Mr. Ablakwa’s remarks suggest that Prof Opoku Agyemang’s presence on the NDC ticket has energized the party’s base and created a sense of enthusiasm among supporters as they gear up for the upcoming elections.
