The upcoming by-election in the Ejisu constituency has been generating significant interest, especially with the latest opinion poll results.

According to the Global InfoAnalytics poll, Kwabena Boateng, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, is in the lead with 50.6 percent, while the former Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who is contesting as an independent candidate, has polled 47.5 percent.

The poll also revealed that 1.7 percent of respondents are yet to decide on their preferred candidate. Interestingly, among NPP respondents, 36 percent indicated support for Owusu Aduomi, while 64 percent said they would vote for Boateng.

Additionally, floating voters seem to favor Owusu Aduomi, with 66 percent expressing their intention to vote for him, compared to 30 percent for Boateng.

The decision of Owusu Aduomi to run as an independent candidate stems from what his camp described as irregularities in the Ejisu polling station executive elections.

The party’s failure to address these issues prompted him to contest independently, as stated in a press release issued on April 12, 2024.

The Ejisu by-election was necessitated by the unfortunate passing of the former MP, John Ampntuah Kumah, who won the seat in 2020. The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled the by-election for April 30, following the vacancy left by Kumah’s death.

It is important to note that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has decided not to participate in the by-election.

With the by-election fast approaching, all eyes will be on the Ejisu constituency to see which candidate emerges victorious and fills the seat left vacant by John Ampntuah Kumah’s untimely demise.
