Current heatwave in the UK expected to get worse

The United Kingdom is bracing for the hottest day on record, with temperatures expected to reach 43 degrees celsius.

The previous temperature record of 38.7 degrees celsius is likely to be broken today after forecasters issued an amber weather warning of ‘extreme heat’ in eastern, southern, and central Scotland.

Ambulance trusts are experiencing a surge in emergency calls due to the high temperatures, and A&E departments across the country are overwhelmed and at capacity.

On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees celsius in Peterborough, Grantham, and Doncaster, with a 95% chance of breaking the 38.7 degrees celsius record.

London Ambulance said it expected up to 8,000 calls by the end of the day, with the worst still to come.

On Monday, Wales had its hottest day on record, with the temperature reaching 37.1 degrees celsius in Hawarden, Flintshire, breaking the country’s previous record, which had been in place since 1990, by nearly 2 degrees Celsius.

The National Grid has issued an alert requesting more power plants tonight, predicting extremely high demand.
