The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region is standing their ground as they demand an apology from Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, for the mistreatment of their General Manager, Michael Wiafe.
The controversy arose after the Regional Minister ordered the arrest of Mr. Wiafe following a disconnection exercise at Kumasi Technical University.
Despite the ECG’s calls for an apology for the abuse of power, the Regional Minister has remained silent on the issue.
In response to this, Bismark Adomah, National Vice Chairman of the Senior Staff Association for ECG, revealed that they have started hoisting red flags at all ECG offices nationwide as a sign of protest.
The National Executive Council (NEC) has also decided that all four general managers in the region will boycott any meetings called by the Regional Minister.
Despite the conflict between the Minister and the ECG, Adomah assured that services to consumers will not be affected as all workers are diligently carrying out their duties.
To further emphasize their stance, ECG workers in the Ashanti Region have issued a warning to the Regional Minister, demanding the immediate payment of his outstanding electricity bills.
They have threatened to disconnect the Minister’s private residences from the national grid if he fails to comply with their demands.
The situation remains tense as both parties refuse to back down, with the ECG workers determined to seek justice for their mistreated colleague. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
