Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, the running mate to former President John Dramani Mahama, has made it clear that corrupt officials of the current Akufo-Addo administration will be held accountable if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerges victorious in this year’s elections.

Speaking at an event held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) auditorium in Accra, she emphasized the importance of consensus building in governance and described it as a fundamental aspect of democracy that leads to sustainable peace.

She expressed her belief in working collaboratively with others and highlighted the significance of consensus building in any progressive and positive project. Referring to the current state of affairs in Ghana, she pointed out the prevalence of corruption in both government and non-government institutions.

Professor Opoku Agyemang stressed the need to strengthen institutions that are responsible for combating corruption and ensuring accountability. She also emphasized the protection of national assets and natural resources from being exploited for personal gain.

In addition, she emphasized the importance of justice, environmental protection, and the well-being of all citizens, including the differently abled. She called for a collective effort to eradicate corruption and ensure that the country’s resources are utilized for the benefit of all citizens.

Addressing various challenges facing the country, she urged against the normalization of silence in the face of injustices and disenfranchisement.

She also criticized the lack of representation in parliament for certain areas and highlighted the need for leaders to be accountable to the people.

As the election approaches, Professor Opoku Agyemang urged Ghanaians to make informed decisions and choose leaders who prioritize the well-being of all citizens and uphold the principles of democracy.

She called for an end to cynicism and mistrust in leadership, especially among the youth, and emphasized the importance of holding leaders accountable for their actions.
