A 39-year-old farmer, Kwabena Seidu, also known as Agya Aboba, has been arraigned in court for allegedly stealing 13 bags of rice belonging to a pastor, whom he also threatened to kill.

Seidu is facing charges of causing damage, theft, and threat of death, all of which he has denied.

During the court proceedings, Seidu was granted bail in the amount of GHC10,000.00, with two sureties required to be justified.

The presiding judge at the Pakyi District Court, Madam Dora Nsiah Jackson, ordered Seidu to return to court on May 2, 2024.

According to Police Chief Inspector Christian Amartey, the complainant, Pastor Akwasi Wusu, and the accused, Seidu, are brothers who are both farmers residing in different villages.

The incident occurred on a family land they were farming on in a village near Pakyi No 2.

The prosecution explained that the complainant had allocated a portion of the family land to a witness in the town to cultivate rice for them to share.

However, when the complainant went to the farm to collect his share of the rice, Seidu arrived and prevented him from doing so. Seidu even went as far as tearing open the sacks of rice with a cutlass and threatening the complainant with death.

Following the incident, the complainant reported the matter to the police, leading to Seidu’s arrest.

Despite denying the charges of causing damage and threat of death, Seidu admitted to taking the sacks of rice, claiming that the land belonged to him.

After investigations, Seidu was charged with the offenses and brought before the court. The case is ongoing, and Seidu is scheduled to appear in court for further proceedings.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of resolving disputes amicably and respecting property rights to avoid such conflicts in the future.
