Vladimir Putin is currently the President of Russia.

He is a Russian politician and former intelligence officer. Putin was born on October 7, 1952.

He is the son of Vladimir Spiridonovich Putin and Maria Ivanovna Shelomova. He was born in Leningrad, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union (now Saint Petersburg, Russia).

Reportedly, Spiridon Putin, his grandfather was a personal cook to Joseph Stalin. He has two brothers; Viktor Putin and Albert Putin. His birth was preceded by the deaths of two brothers, Viktor and Albert, born in the mid-1930s.

His older sibling, Albert Putin died at infancy and Viktor died of diphtheria. This happened during the Siege of Leningrad by Nazi Germany.

Putin began his political career in Saint Petersburg. In 1996, he moved to the capital Moscow and joined President Boris Yeltsin’s administration.

He became president after the resignation of Boris Yeltsin and was elected for his first term in 2004.

When will Putin leave office?

According to a report, Putin signed a constitutional amendment into law that included the constitution allowing him to run for reelection twice more in April 2021 following a referendum.

That potentially means he extended his presidency to 2036.
