Isaac Adongo, Ranking Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament, has called on President Akufo-Addo to provide Parliament with a copy of the KPMG report on the GRA-SML deal.

The audit firm KPMG recently submitted its final report to President Akufo-Addo, revealing that no technical needs assessment was conducted before the engagement of SML and that SML only partially delivered on the service requirements.

In a statement issued on Friday, April 26, Mr. Adongo emphasized the need for Parliament to have access to the report to aid the Finance Committee in its investigation of the deal.

He expressed concern over the lack of comprehensive recommendations in the report despite the public’s awareness of the SML arrangement.

Mr. Adongo highlighted the importance of scrutinizing the mandate, terms of reference, methodology, and approach of the audit report. He also emphasized the need to identify the beneficial owners of SML and recover any funds paid as a result of any illegality.

The KPMG audit was initiated by the President following an expose by the Fourth Estate. The audit revealed that SML has been paid over GH¢1 billion since 2018, despite only partially fulfilling its responsibilities.

In response, SML clarified in a statement that they have not received a $100 million payment from the government, as alleged in the audit report.

Overall, Mr. Adongo’s request for transparency and accountability in the GRA-SML deal underscores the importance of parliamentary oversight in governance.

It remains to be seen how President Akufo-Addo will respond to the call for the report to be presented to Parliament when it reconvenes.
