Joseph Addo, the personal driver of President Nana Akufo-Addo, has emerged victorious in the La Dadekotopon NPP primary, securing 664 votes to claim the top spot.

This win comes after a closely contested race with Solomon Kotey Nikoi, the MCE for the area, who garnered 555 votes.

The primary saw a high turnout with 1,221 delegates out of 1,312 eligible voters casting their ballots on Saturday, April 27.

Addo had expressed confidence in his ability to win the primary and had vowed to reclaim the La Dadekopon seat for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the party’s loss to the NDC.

Having served as President Akufo-Addo’s driver for over two decades, Addo emphasized his strong ties to the constituency, stating, “I was born and bred here in La, I have lived all my life here so I am not new in this constituency.”

He also highlighted his track record of helping the youth in the area secure jobs and employment in government agencies.

The NPP aims to regain the La Dade-Kotopon seat in the upcoming elections after losing to the NDC in 2020.

The primary was necessitated by the resignation of the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Dr. Joseph Gerald Tetteh Nyanyofio, who cited personal reasons for stepping down.

With Addo emerging as the winner of the primary, he is now set to represent the NPP in the upcoming polls as they seek to secure victory in La Dadekotopon.
