The chief of the Wala Traditional Council, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, has raised concerns about the rampant grabbing of state lands in the Wa Municipality.
He made an appeal to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to step in and put a stop to this unauthorized acquisition of state lands.
During a courtesy call by the President, Naa Pelpuo requested for a thorough audit of the state lands in the Municipality, pointing out that individuals were taking advantage of the situation to identify, rezone, and sell state lands to themselves without considering the future development needs of the municipality.
He highlighted the urgency of addressing this issue to prevent hindrances to local state projects requiring land within town. Despite praising President Akufo-Addo for his efforts in developing the Wa Municipality and the Upper West Region, Naa Pelpuo also reminded him about pending requests, including road rehabilitation, provision of buses for educational institutions, and support for farmers with affordable farm inputs.
In response, President Akufo-Addo assured the Chief of taking action on the sale of state lands, working on road projects, and addressing all outstanding requests in due course. He emphasized the importance of sustaining peace and security in the region, urging the chiefs and people to support the government in this endeavor.
As Ghana continues to be a leader in democratic governance in the West Africa sub-region, President Akufo-Addo called for collective efforts in protecting the peace and security the country enjoys. It is evident that collaboration between the government and local leaders is crucial in addressing land issues and promoting development in the region.
