Charles Berry was a singer, songwriter, and guitarist from the United States who was born on October 18, 1926, and died on March 18, 2017.
Berry was a huge influence on later rock music, writing lyrics about youthful life and materialism. Many people referred to him as the father of Rock n Roll because of the fresh rhymes and dynamics he infused into his brand of music.
What ended Chuck Berry career?
Like most superstars, Berry’s life was not devoid of controversy. During the latter part of his career, he was embroiled in sexual offenses charges.
In 1990, he was sued by numerous ladies who claimed he had put a video camera in his restaurant’s toilet to illegally record them for his private pleasure.
Berry denied this accusation insisting that the cameras were installed purposefully to apprehend an employee who was stealing from him. His lawyers insisted that the class action was a broad conspiracy to ruin Berry’s career.
When his residence was raided later on by authorities several tapes of women in his bathroom were found in his house including marijuana. This development greatly affected his career.
He was never the same again till his demise in 2017.
