The Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Dr Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, has refuted claims that the government is overlooking numerous calls for a review of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

In an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show on April 25, Dr Tsiboe-Darko clarified that the process of policy review is a meticulous one that involves specific terms and procedures.

She emphasized that a policy review entails a complete overhaul of the existing system to ensure the policy’s objectives are met and to prevent the recurrence of past mistakes.

Dr Tsiboe-Darko stated that the government is currently gathering data to facilitate a seamless review and to avoid replicating errors.

Addressing concerns about the policy, she urged students to pay less attention to criticism and concentrate on their studies.

Despite the backlash, Dr Tsiboe-Darko highlighted that the policy has been instrumental in relieving many young individuals from the burden of financing their education.

Drawing from her personal experience, she reminisced about her time in secondary school where students had to farm and make do with limited resources.

Dr Tsiboe-Darko stressed the importance of resilience and adapting to challenges, pointing out that such experiences build strength.

In conclusion, she encouraged the youth to be more accepting and appreciative, emphasizing the value of perseverance and self-reliance in overcoming obstacles.

The Free SHS policy, according to Dr Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, has been a transformative initiative that has provided opportunities for countless students to access quality education.
