The Aburi Girls student died after allegedly being denied an apartment, according to reports from the education think tank Eduwatch.
The think tank expressed regret at the circumstances surrounding the school administration’s request for parents to pick up their ill children from the hospital.
When no one is close, SHSs should not be calling parents to come and pick up sick children from the hospital, according to Eduwatch.
It believes that several SHSs have poor sick bay conditions, and that many sick bays still sell medications despite the NHIS.
Eduwatch has requested that the Ghana Education Service work with GHS to create a case management procedure for ill pupils attending school in order to assist solve the matter.
It said that key performance indicators for school heads and indicators for school inspector supervision should be integrated into the monitoring of protocol implementation.
“NHIS in SHS must function, and GHS and GES must supply the necessary medications. The statement also stated that parent groups and older students ought to be concerned about the condition and operation of the health facilities in their schools.
It also requested that GES communicate with GHS to guarantee that sick bays have the necessary medications, qualified staff, and minimal amenities to comply with NHIS regulations.
