Andrews was a student at Cordova High School in the state of California. He played the school’s football and basketball team during his time there. He was rated as one of the top prospects in his graduating class.

Andrews got admission to Yuba College. He proved vital to the basketball team’s 24-7 record and Elite Eight appearance in the 2004 California Community College Athletic Association state championship.

In his first year at the school, he averaged 10 points and 9 rebounds. During his sophomore year, Zach was named to the Bay Valley East All-Conference team for leading the conference in rebounds and field goal percentage.

The following season he announced his move to Bradley University in the state of Illinois and where he featured in two dominant campaigns on the Bradley Braves men’s basketball team.
