The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has called for a forensic audit of the voter register in light of recent developments at the Electoral Commission. This demand comes after the revelation that five laptops were stolen from the EC’s stores, raising concerns about the security of the electoral process.
Speaking at a recent NDC event called “Moments of Truth,” Mr. Kwetey stressed the need for an independent investigation into the alleged theft, supported by international observers to ensure impartiality. The results of the audit are expected to identify those responsible for any irregularities and propose corrective actions to prevent future breaches.
In addition to the voter register audit, Mr. Kwetey also called for a comprehensive assessment of the EC’s inventory and security measures, focusing on all Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) and Biometric Voter Devices (BVD). He emphasized that these demands reflect the people’s desire for transparency, fairness, and security in the electoral process.
The NDC is committed to holding the Electoral Commission accountable and ensuring that every Ghanaian’s vote is protected. Mr. Kwetey made it clear that the party will not accept mere assurances but will continue to push for concrete actions to safeguard the integrity of the electoral system.
As Ghana prepares for future elections, the NDC and the people of Ghana stand united in their demand for a secure and transparent electoral process. The actions taken by the Electoral Commission in response to this crisis will not only impact the credibility of upcoming elections but will also shape the future of democracy in the country.
The time for action is now, and the NDC is determined to uphold the principles of democracy and ensure that Ghana’s electoral system is beyond reproach.
