The University of Ghana recently inaugurated its Kumasi City Campus, providing an opportunity for students who were unable to secure admission to the main campus to access quality education.

The event also marked the matriculation of 26 undergraduate students for the academic year 2023-2024.

Established as one of two satellite campuses of the College of Education, the Kumasi City Campus is fully accredited to offer undergraduate programs in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, emphasized that the university’s vision is to extend its premium services to students in various regions across the country. This move aims to ensure manageable student numbers across campuses to uphold the quality of teaching, learning, and lecturing, nurturing students to tackle local and global challenges effectively.

Due to inadequate facilities and resources at the main campus, many qualified applicants were rejected, prompting a call for prospective students and guardians to consider programs offered at the city campuses for increased admission chances. The university admitted 11,246 students for the academic year, with 56.6% being females, showcasing the institution’s commitment to affirmative action for women.

Acting Principal of the Kumasi City Campus, Prof. Edward Nketiah-Amponsah, encouraged new students to build a strong network for mentorship and job opportunities post-education. Despite the positive developments, challenges like accommodation shortages were raised by a representative from the matriculation class, urging management to consider establishing hostels to ease financial burdens on students.
