UK authorities have ordered the Jamaican government to cover the legal fees of dancehall star Vybz Kartel after a successful murder conviction appeal.

Kartel, also known as Adidja Azim Palmer, had been serving a life sentence since 2014 for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. However, in 2021, new evidence presented during an appeal led to a significant decision by the Privy Council in the United Kingdom.

The order, dated April 10, 2024, mandates the Jamaican government to not only cover Kartel’s legal costs but also those of three other defendants convicted in the same murder case. The appeal was allowed due to juror misconduct, and the case will now return to the Court of Appeal for a potential retrial.

This legal victory marks a notable turn of events for Vybz Kartel and his associates in the ongoing legal battle.
