Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the South Dayi member of parliament, believes that military personnel who carry out extrajudicial killings in Bawku ought to face severe repercussions.
His remark comes after three young Bawku men were shot dead after being captured and beaten by military personnel. Eyewitnesses claimed that the young men had done nothing to warrant the military’s attack.
Tension in the area has increased as a result of the incident. Speaking about the situation on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Mr. Dafeamekpor said that some people are not carrying out their responsibilities as expected because there are still gun violence incidents in Bawku despite the area’s intense militarization.
“A national security strategy document is at our disposal. If you read it, Bawku is mentioned a lot. These are the approaches developed by the national security apparatus to address the issue.
Therefore, I find it surprising that this issue persists despite all of the solutions listed in the document. “Why? Because when people commit crimes, offenses, or deeds that should be punished, there are no repercussions. He declared, “These are extrajudicial executions.”
He went on to say that the crisis area might become a full-fledged war zone if rogue officials are not held accountable and that those responsible for extrajudicial killings face severe consequences.
When incidents like this occur, repercussions are inevitable. Punishment is necessary for people. In my opinion, that is exactly what is happening—create a conflict situation and kill your opponent in the name of conflict—if we don’t punish. We’ll start an artificial war and commit murder.
