György Gát was born on February 5, 1947, in Budapest. The crime-comedy TV show Linda (1984–1989) was Gát’s first big success. Nóra Görbe, his wife, starred in Linda.

Gát made history as Hungary’s first independent television producer during “Linda”‘s pre-production, a distinction the authorities at the time refused to recognize.

After that, Gát produced the cartoon series “Szerencsi fel!” (2004), the television series “Angyalbőrben”[6] (1990–1991), “Familia Kft.” (1991–1997), “TV a város szélén” (1998), “SztárVár”[9] (2005), and others.

In 2008, he co-wrote and co-directed “A Kis Vuk” (English: A Kis Vuk), the sequel to the animated film Vuk.

On March 13, 2024, Gát passed away at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife Nóra Görbe and 3 children.
