An Accra High Court has ordered Daniel Asiedu, also known as Sexy Dondon, to appear before it and present his defense in the case of the late legislator, J.B. Dankwah Adu’s murder.
The court also directed Asiedu to provide medical records signed by a certified medical officer to prove his ailment.
During the court session, Asiedu’s defense counsel, Ms. Sophia Armstrong, informed the court that the accused was unwell and unable to attend the court proceedings.
She requested an expedited hearing for a motion regarding a subpoena, as Asiedu intends to call witnesses before presenting his defense.
However, the prosecution led by Sefakor Batse, a Principal State Attorney, clarified that a motion was not necessary to subpoena a witness and that arrangements could be made directly with the court registrar.
The court expressed skepticism about the timing of the defense counsel’s request, stating that it appeared to be in bad faith.
The presiding judge, Justice Mrs. Lydia Osei Marfo, emphasized that the court would not participate in any attempt to delay the trial further.
Consequently, the court ordered Asiedu to appear before it the following day to present his defense in the robbery and murder case of the Legislator in 2016.
It is important to note that Asiedu had pleaded not guilty before a seven-member jury and had been remanded into custody. An accomplice, Vincent Bossu, was acquitted after a no-case submission was filed on his behalf.
The court’s directive underscores the gravity of the case and the need for a timely and fair trial. As the legal proceedings continue, the pursuit of justice for the late J.B. Dankwah Adu remains a top priority.
