Keefe D, also known as Duane “Keefe D” Davis, appeared in court looking somber as his lawyer argued that he was not present in Las Vegas on the night Tupac Shakur was murdered.

The former gangster is facing charges that accuse him of being the mastermind behind the rapper’s killing.

Wearing a navy blue prison uniform and restraints around his waist, Keefe D is currently awaiting a potential trial for his alleged involvement in Tupac’s death. His lawyer, Carl Arnold, shocked many by stating in an interview that people should not trust Keefe D, calling him a liar.

Arnold revealed that Keefe D had initially believed he would be protected from prosecution if he provided information about Tupac’s murder. Keefe D had confessed in a secret interview in 2008 to helping his nephew Orlando Anderson shoot Tupac in a drive-by shooting. However, Arnold claims that there is no DNA evidence to support Keefe D’s statements and believes his client was not present during the murder.

Despite Keefe D’s alleged lies, prosecutors in Nevada are moving forward with the case and plan to review and turn over documents within two months. Judge Carli Kierny scheduled another status check for July 23, and the trial is expected to begin around November 4.

Tupac was fatally shot in 1996 in Las Vegas, and the case remained unsolved for decades until Keefe D’s arrest. The 25-year-old rapper was shot four times and succumbed to his injuries six days later. Although gang member Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson was initially suspected of the murder, he denied any involvement and was never charged.

Police documents released in 2020 indicated that authorities were actively seeking other suspects in Tupac’s murder. The investigation took a new turn when Las Vegas police searched a home in Henderson, Nevada in 2023, but no arrests were made. The house belonged to Keefe D’s wife, and Keefe D was later indicted by a grand jury for open murder with the use of a deadly weapon.

Despite being granted bail, Keefe D remains in prison as he struggles to raise the necessary funds for release. Feeling abandoned by his former associates, Keefe D is reportedly disappointed that the loyalty and generosity he showed them in the past have not been reciprocated.

The former drug kingpin is facing a long legal battle as he fights the charges related to Tupac’s murder.
