The Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) has issued a one-week ultimatum to the government to release their research support grants.
Failure to do so will result in nationwide protests, as announced by the President of the University of Ghana Chapter for GRASAG, Claudius Angsongna, during a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, April 10.
Angsongna expressed dissatisfaction with the persistent delays in the disbursement of research grants by the Scholarship Secretariat. He emphasized the adverse impact of these delays on graduate students’ activities, highlighting the crucial financial assistance needed for their research endeavors.
For the past three years, GRASAG members have been deprived of government support for research, leading to significant challenges. The association’s leadership stressed the importance of these grants in supporting graduate students’ research efforts, which contribute to knowledge advancement and academic development.
Demanding an increase in funding for graduate students, the association called on the government to address the issue promptly. They requested a response within a week, warning of nationwide demonstrations and further press conferences if their demands are not met.
