President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to stay vigilant in the face of the spread of false information leading up to the upcoming December elections.
Speaking at the Eid celebrations at the Black Star Square in Accra, the President highlighted the dangers of fake news in inciting unrest during elections and emphasized the importance of rejecting such misinformation to maintain national unity and peace.
With the rise of social media and the ease of spreading false information, President Akufo-Addo cautioned against endorsing or spreading fake news that could harm individuals’ reputations and perpetuate division in society.
As the country heads into an election year, the President reminded citizens of the potential for some individuals to exploit religious and ethnic differences to further their own narrow political agendas. He called on Ghanaians to be wary of misinformation and to verify any news before accepting it as truth.
Quoting Quran chapter 49 verse 6, President Akufo-Addo encouraged Muslims to verify any news that comes their way to avoid spreading false information that could lead to regrettable consequences.
