The Paramount Chief of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Building-Kunuto Soale Jewu, has made a bold move by banning Lands Minister, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, from entering all palaces within the Gonja kingdom. This decree comes as a result of what the Yagbonwura termed as a breach of tradition and respect by the minister.
The traditional leaders in West Gonja have accused Mr. Jinapor of interfering in traditional matters within the area, causing discontent and disaffection among the people. The Yagbonwura’s interpreters emphasized the seriousness of the situation during a press conference, warning that any chief who defies the decree and allows Mr. Jinapor entry into their palace will face severe consequences.
The decree states, “The king will never grant audience to any government delegation, political party, or any person who pays him a visit once it includes Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor until he learns his tradition as a royal and learns how to respect the authority of the Yagbonwura. This statement is final and binding on all paramount chiefs within the Gonja kingdom.”
Additionally, the angry youth in the area have expressed their frustration by hoisting inscriptions such as “Abu Jinapor, enough of your selfishness and arrogance” and “No more undermining of traditional authority.”
Chiefs and local leaders are expected to strictly adhere to the decree to ensure the authority of the Yagbonwura is upheld. This development has stirred conversations and discussions within the community, shedding light on the importance of respecting traditional customs and values in the governance of the Gonja kingdom.
