Winning trophies shouldn’t be the benchmark for determining who’s a good coach – Paa Kwesi Fabin

Legon Cities head coach Paa Kwesi Fabin is speaking out against the common practice of judging coaches solely based on their results.

In a recent interview with 3Sports, the experienced coach highlighted the complexities of football, pointing out that there are numerous factors that contribute to a team’s performance.

Fabin, who has previously managed top clubs like Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, expressed his frustration with the narrow perspective many clubs and stakeholders have when evaluating a coach’s success. He emphasized that player abilities, team dynamics, and external influences all play a role in determining the outcome of a match.

One of Fabin’s main arguments is that success should not be solely measured by trophies won. He believes that the development of players and the ability to adapt to different systems are also important indicators of a coach’s skill. However, in our current football culture, winning trophies is often seen as the only measure of success.

Since taking the helm at Legon Cities this season, Fabin has led the team to a 12th place position on the league table with 35 points after 27 games.

Despite the team’s current standing, Fabin remains steadfast in his belief that true coaching excellence should be measured by more than just wins and losses.
