Renowned Ghanaian playwright and ImageBureau CEO, George Quaye, has shared insights on why theatre spaces in Ghana struggle with low patronage.

During an interview on Hitz FM, Quaye pointed out that the historical perception of theatre as a free commodity plays a significant role in this challenge.

George Quaye highlighted that many Ghanaians have become accustomed to enjoying theatre productions without having to pay for them. This mindset stems from the past when theatre shows were often offered to the public at no cost.

Theatre spaces in Ghana face difficulties in attracting audiences due to this ingrained belief that theatre should be freely accessible. Quaye’s explanation sheds light on the need to address this perception and encourage a shift towards valuing theatre as a paid art form.
