Why did Tommen Baratheon commit suicide in ‘Game of Thrones’?

King Tommen Baratheon’s death in the Game of Thrones season 6 finale may have been by suicide, although Tommen’s suicide was prompted by causes other than his wife’s untimely death.

Callum Wharry played Cersei Lannister’s youngest son until the character of Tommen was recast with Dean-Charles Chapman for Season 4. Soon later, Tommen emerged as the heir to the Iron Throne, but the strains of his family and the surrounding tension among Westerosi’s powers eventually caught up with the young king.

Tommen’s death occurred in Season 6 episode 10 and is one of the most devastating endings for a Game of Thrones character.

When Tommen took the throne, he appeared to be a welcome change from Joffrey. He had previously exhibited more compassion than anybody else in his family, including his uncle Tyrion, the black sheep of House Lannister.

While his intentions as king were good, he was still a small boy who was afraid and unsure, allowing him to be manipulated by anyone who could get their claws into him.
