Who was Hart High School principal Troy Moran?

The Hart High School community is mourning the loss of their beloved principal, Troy Moran, who tragically passed away from a heart attack at the age of 46 on Saturday, April 27, 2024. M

oran, a Michigan native, had been serving as the principal of Hart High School since 2021.

Moran was known for his dedication to the students and staff at the school. He was instrumental in starting the Ride with Pride program, which aimed to promote safe and positive choices among students. The program brought together law enforcement and schools to educate students about making positive decisions both inside and outside of school.

In addition to his role at Hart High School, Moran had previously served as the principal of Montague High School and held various positions within the education sector, including teacher, dean of students, and upper elementary school principal. He was a graduate of Whitehall High School and Western Michigan University.

The news of Moran’s passing has left the community in shock and sadness. Hart High School Superintendent, Mark Platt, described Moran as a great guy, a great dad, and a great principal. The outpouring of support from districts across West Michigan has been tremendous, highlighting the impact Moran had on those around him.

Platt announced that school would continue as normal on Monday, and grief counselors would be available to support both students and staff during this difficult time. The school’s crisis team is meeting to discuss next steps, and plans for the rest of the school year are in progress.

While it is unknown if Moran was married, he leaves behind two teenage daughters, Elle and Reagan. The entire Hart High School community is coming together to remember and honor the legacy of a devoted educator and leader, who will be deeply missed.
