Legendary American rapper Tupac Shakur was known for his impactful music and relentless fight for social justice.

However, his legacy has recently been marred by controversy surrounding his estate.

After the passing of Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur in 2016, Tom Whalley took over as the executor of Tupac’s estate. Whalley, a former head of Warner Bros Records, had signed Tupac to the label back in 1989 when he was working for Interscope.

In a shocking turn of events, Tupac’s sister Sekyiwa Shakur and the Tupac Shakur foundation filed a lawsuit against Whalley in January 2022. They accuse him of embezzling millions and violating his role as executor of the estate.

When Tupac tragically died, Afeni created Amaru Records to handle the release of his unreleased music. Since Afeni’s sudden death, Amaru Entertainment, as well as Tupac’s estate, has been managed by Whalley.

There are conflicting reports about Tupac’s net worth at the time of his death, with some sources claiming it was as high as $28 million, while others suggest it was only $200,000. Regardless of the true amount, it is clear that Tupac left behind a substantial legacy.

Tupac was not just a musician, but also a businessman. He founded a company called Euphanasia to develop movie projects and support community-minded initiatives. He had plans for several other business ventures, including a charity called The Underground Railroad and Thug Mansions, aimed at helping disadvantaged youth.

As of 2024, Tupac’s estate is estimated to be worth around $40 million, but some reports suggest it could be worth over $100 million when factoring in unreleased material. While the exact inheritance that Afeni Shakur received after Tupac’s death remains unclear, she was a philanthropist who continued his legacy through the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.

Tupac may have passed away tragically over two decades ago, but his impact on music and society continues to be felt to this day. His music, activism, and business ventures have left an indelible mark on the world of entertainment and beyond.
