Taghi Rahmani is best known as an Iranian journalist, writer, and nationalist-religious activist. Shireen Hunter describes Rahmani as “a contemporary Iranian intellectual and author of books on religious intellectualism and reason”. Taghi Rahmani is 64 years of age and was born in 1959, in Qazvin, Iran. He attended the University of Tabriz. Records hadith that, he is “Iran’s most frequently jailed journalist” and Amnesty International has designated him a prisoner of conscience. He was a senior campaign official for Mehdi Karroubi during the 2009 Iranian presidential election.
Rahmani got married to political activist Nagres Mohammadi, a 2023 Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1999. The couple had two children who were twins named Kiana Rahmani and Ali Rahmani.
Taghi Rahmani relocated to France in 2012 after serving 14 years of prison sentences leaving his wife behind to continue her human rights work.
