The fictional character Cersei Lannister is played by Bermudan-English actress Lena Headey in the television version of the epic fantasy novel A Song of Ice and Fire by American author George R. R. Martin, entitled Game of Thrones.

A Game of Thrones, which debuted in 1996, introduced Cersei to the world. She belongs to House Lannister, one of the most affluent and powerful families on the Westerosi peninsula. She then makes appearances in A Clash of Kings (1998) and A Storm of Swords (2000) before beginning to play a significant point-of-view role in A Feast for Crows (2005). The upcoming novel The Winds of Winter will continue to feature Cersei as a character from a certain point of view.

Cersei was made the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros by virtue of their relationship with King Robert Baratheon, who mistreated her during their marriage. Her father Tywin arranged the marriage after attempting to betroth her to Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, whom she had come to love.

The Lannisters helped Robert take the kingdom when the Targaryen dynasty was overthrown. Cersei and her twin brother Jaime have been involved in adulterous affairs since Cersei was a small child.

Power, cunning, a transgressive worldview, affection for and a desire to protect her children are the main characteristics that characterize Cersei as a person. She is recognized as one of the most convoluted characters in the story.
