Nuclear warfare (also known as atomic warfare or thermonuclear warfare) is a military conflict or political strategy that involves the use of nuclear weapons like fission bombs and thermonuclear bombs.
Both types of weapons produce huge numbers of nuclear reactions in a very short time.
Which countries have pledged to avoid nuclear war?
In a rare show of solidarity amid escalating East-West tensions, five of the world’s greatest nuclear powers committed on Monday to work together toward “a world without nuclear weapons.”
“A nuclear war cannot be won and must never be waged,” read the joint declaration made by the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France at the same time. “Because nuclear use would have far-reaching effects, we further maintain that nuclear weapons should serve defensive goals, discourage aggression, and avoid war for as long as they exist.”
The declaration also emphasized the necessity of avoiding nuclear-weapon nations from escalating conflict, calling it a “primary obligation.”
The declaration comes as tensions between international powers have reached unprecedented levels in recent times.
