Joan Copeland Miller, a woman who changed the face of Broadway in the United States.

Miller was born in New York City to a middle-class Jewish family.

Her father, Isidore, was a  producer of women’s clothing, and her mother, Augusta, was a teacher and a housewife. She was the younger sister of Kermit Miller and author Arthur Miller,  as well as Marilyn Monroe’s sister-in-law for a short time. 

Copeland, a founding member of the famed Actors Studio, had several film credits as well as recurrent appearances on daytime dramas such as Search for Tomorrow and One Life to Live.

The Broadway World website broke the news of Copeland’s death.

When did Joan Copeland pass away?

Copeland died on January 4, 2022, at the age of 99 at her home in Manhattan.

She was married to engineer George J. Kupchik from 1946 until his death in 1989. She is survived by her male son Eric.
