Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation on Friday aimed at dissolving a special taxing district that has granted Walt Disney World unique self-governing powers for more than five decades, despite warnings from a leading bond-rating agency about the proposed changes.
The bill is aimed at the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which encompasses approximately 25,000 acres in Orange and Osceola counties on land in and around the most magical place on earth.
The district has authority over issues such as land use and performs traditional government functions such as fire protection and wastewater services.
