Prince Edward is the youngest son of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and the youngest sibling of King Charles III.
Here we take a look back at Prince Edward throughout the years from his childhood to now.
Born at Buckingham Palace during the reign of his mother, Edward studied at Heatherdown School and completed his A-Levels at Gordonstoun before spending part of his gap year teaching at Wanganui Collegiate School in New Zealand.
Prince Edward was born at 8:20 p.m. on 10 March 1964 at Buckingham Palace, London, as the third son and the fourth and youngest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
He is the most recent child to be born to a reigning British monarch. His birth was the only one witnessed by his father. He was baptized on 2 May 1964 in the private chapel at Windsor Castle.
It’s believed that Edward’s birth was the first that Prince Philip was there to witness – and the first royal father in history to be at birth – after the Queen asked him to be there, according to the book My Husband And I: The Inside Story Of 70 Years Of Royal Marriage.
It’s fair to say that Edward had a pretty unconventional childhood growing up. It’s claimed he learned how to ride a pony when he was just two years old and he was minded by a governess, just like his siblings. His governess taught him early on at Buckingham Palace before he headed off to school.
Black and white photos show Edward always dressed in his Sunday best and enjoying family trips, hanging out with horses, and helping to look after the Queen’s beloved corgis.
