His biography reveals: The Bill Nye the Science Guy show won 19 Emmys, and he won seven of them. For an episode on bones and muscles, he visited the Seattle ballet school that Jenna Elfman had attended while working on that show.

According to Geek.com, he came into contact with a dancer who, as a result of her training, required multiple foot surgeries. This encounter led Nye to create an en pointe ballet shoe for dancing on the toes that featured a toe box that enclosed and protected a dancer’s toes while also providing additional support along the sole.
