Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has hinted at the possibility of Dutch-born Ghanaian goalkeeper, Rome Owusu-Oduro, receiving a call-up to the national team in the future. Addo stated that Ghana is always interested in talented players with Ghanaian heritage, regardless of where they were born or raised.
Recent reports from the Netherlands suggested that the Ghana Football Association had reached out to Owusu-Oduro, who currently plays for AZ Alkmaar, about potentially representing the Black Stars. However, the goalkeeper was not included in the 23-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
“We are concentrating on our next match, but rest assured, any player with Ghanaian roots who has the ability to play for the national team is on our radar,” Addo said. “If a player has a Ghanaian name and is performing well in top European leagues, we will definitely consider them.”
Owusu-Oduro has made three appearances for AZ Alkmaar this season, achieving two clean sheets in the process. Ghana is scheduled to take on Angola in Kumasi on Thursday, September 5, 2024, followed by a match against Niger in Morocco four days later. It is worth noting that Niger does not have official approval from CAF to host continental games at this time.
