Ernesto Yeboah, the Commander-in-Chief of the Economic Fighters League, has emphasized that Ghana’s pursuit of democracy goes beyond mere political freedom. In his view, Ghanaians also yearn for economic liberation. Yeboah highlighted that while civil liberties like freedom of movement and expression are crucial, the primary motivation behind choosing democracy is the belief that it would enhance the quality of life for Ghanaians.
A recent Afrobarometer report has shed light on the escalating discontent among African youth. The report reveals that young people often feel excluded from governance decision-making processes, leading to heightened frustration. Speaking on the JoyNews AM show, Yeboah expressed concerns about the lack of tangible development outcomes despite successive governments being in power for extended periods.
He pointed out that many citizens struggle to afford three square meals a day and highlighted the corrosive impact of corruption on the democratic system. Yeboah lamented instances where public officials amass wealth illegally without facing consequences, causing disillusionment among the populace. As a result, some Ghanaians are beginning to explore alternative systems to address governance challenges.
As the country grapples with economic hardships and governance deficiencies, Yeboah underscored the importance of addressing corruption and prioritizing the well-being of the Ghanaian people. The quest for a more equitable and prosperous society remains a driving force behind the push for democratic reforms.
The Economic Fighters League and its leader continue to advocate for social justice, economic empowerment, and accountability in governance to ensure a better future for all Ghanaians.
