The Director of Communication of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), George Ayisi, has emphasized the need for more resources to be allocated to the organization as the heavy rains approach.
In an interview on Joy News’ The Pulse, Ayisi highlighted the challenges NADMO faces in adequately catering to emergencies due to limited relief items in their warehouses. Despite government efforts to provide necessary equipment like water pumping machines, there is still a significant need for more resources in terms of relief supplies.
Ayisi pointed out that the four warehouses in Accra are not at full capacity, and depots in other regions also require restocking. This inadequacy leaves NADMO ill-prepared to handle potential flooding disasters.
He stressed the importance of acquiring additional resources to ensure NADMO’s readiness to respond effectively to disaster situations. In light of the upcoming rainy season, Ayisi emphasized the importance of restocking warehouses and prepositioning relief items in all regional capitals.
Furthermore, NADMO has launched initiatives to educate individuals living in flood-prone areas on accessing safe havens during flood emergencies.
Through a series of community engagements, NADMO has identified safe havens and informed residents on how to access these locations in times of need.
