Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on African governments to refrain from actions that could potentially harm businesses on the continent.
During a panel discussion at the 2nd edition of the Afro-heritage Conference and Awards in Lagos, Nigeria, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emphasized the importance of creating an environment conducive for businesses to thrive.
Mahama highlighted that one of the barriers to having more successful African businesses is the tendency of governments to target businesses owned by their political opponents. He urged leaders to support entrepreneurs and not stand in the way of their success.
“We must not be afraid for our business people to succeed, we must not be afraid to have rich Africans,” Mahama stated.
The former president also stressed the need for African leaders to invest in the youth and support innovative initiatives that will benefit ordinary citizens across the continent. He emphasized the importance of believing in the potential of African entrepreneurs and the opportunities that arise in challenging times.
Mahama’s comments come at a time when the continent is seeking to boost economic growth and create more opportunities for its citizens.
By supporting local businesses and fostering a positive environment for entrepreneurship, African governments can contribute to the development and prosperity of the continent as a whole.
