The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling for a complete overhaul of all security protocols at the Electoral Commission (EC) in preparation for the upcoming 2024 elections.
Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC, emphasized the importance of reviewing and strengthening security measures to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
During the latest Moment of Truth series of the party, Mr. Kwetey stressed the need for independent international bodies to oversee investigations into the alleged theft of Biometric Verification Registration (BVR) devices and laptops at the EC. He highlighted the significance of every piece of equipment within the EC’s inventory, as they have the potential to influence the electoral process significantly.
Concerns were raised about the potential insider threats or external breaches that could arise from the theft of such devices, compromising sensitive systems. Mr. Kwetey criticized the assurances provided by EC officials, deeming them inadequate and displaying a lack of understanding of electoral security complexities.
He reiterated the NDC’s commitment to upholding democracy in Ghana and urged decisive action to ensure a rigorous, transparent, and secure electoral process. Safeguarding Ghana’s democracy, the will of its people, and the future stability of the nation were underscored as top priorities for the NDC.
The party stands firm in its belief that nothing less than a secure electoral process that reflects the true will of the people is acceptable. The call for a comprehensive review and overhaul of security protocols at the EC is seen as essential to preserving the democratic integrity of Ghana.
