Edson Arantes do Nascimento, commonly known as Pelé, is a Brazilian football (soccer) legend. He was born in So Paolo on October 23, 1940. When Pelé was born, he was most likely the most well-known and prosperous athlete in the entire world. He was a member of all three of Brazil’s World Cup-winning teams (1958, 1962, and 1970).

Pelé, whose name appears meaningless, was turned down by important club teams in the city of So Paulo after playing for a lower league club in Bauru, So Paulo state. The team won nine So Paulo league titles, the Libertadores Cup, and the Intercontinental Club Cup in 1962 and 1963 with Pelé playing inside left forward after he eventually joined the Santos Football Club in 1956.

Pelé made his international debut at the age of 16, and the following year, in Sweden, he took part in his first World Cup finals game. The Brazilian manager was first hesitant to deploy his young star. When Pelé finally joined the field, he immediately made an impact, rattling the post with one shot and earning an assist.
