Mark Wahlberg was part of the original members of the boy band New kids on the block along with his brother Donnie Wahlberg, but he quit after only a few months in the band. He was only 13 years of age at the time.

His brother Donnie stayed with the band and recruited other good singers and rappers from his high school. He asked Jamie Kelly, Jordan Knight, and Danny Wood to join the group. Knight was followed into the group by his older brother Jonathan Knight and Kelly left the group early on.

The group went on to make their debut album in 1986 with Donnie only 16 years of age at the time. It became one of the most popular bands in the nineties with some its songs being remembered to this day.
